After a short hiatus from the music scene, Wayne Marshall is now back and going harder than ever. The artiste known widely for his song "Legalize Ganja" and his collaboration 'My Heart' with Mavado, is currently working on a new album exclusively being produced by Ghetto Youths International recording label.

Fans got their first taste of the work in progress with the release of the single 'Go Hard'. The track produced by Baby G's Yard Music, features a stellar compilation of Jamaican music heavy weights including Damian Marley, Sizzla, Bounty Killer, I-Octane, Aidonia and Vybz Kartel. Of course rounding up so many high profile artistes was no easy task but Marshall relayed he was up for the challenge, noting that "Dancehall music needs this kind of unity."Its barley been a week since 'Go Hard' has surfaced and the feedback has been quite favourable. In fact Marshall has already started planning several remixes for the song.

He told Jamaicansmusic that he is working acidulously on his album which is slated for release between the last quarter of 2012 and the first two month of 2013. So far the album title is undecided with True Colour and Go Hard being the most likely candidates. Collaborations thus far includes Tarrus Riley, Konshens and Damian Marley among others currently "in the works."  The artiste is quite ecstatic about his new project and also plans to release a video for 'Go hard' in short order. He told Jamaicansmusic, "This is definitely the best work of my life. I am a more complete artiste than before as I am more involved in the theory behind the music, playing instruments and the production in general. My fans will feel the difference in the quality of music."

Aside from his album, he is also involved in a major collaborative effort with Damian Marley, Tarrus Riley and TOK dedicated to the celebration of Jamaica's 50th anniversary of Independence. He shared that this project seeks to highlight where we are coming from as a people musically and channel the essence of where we are going.

If you called him a music producer, you’d be right and if you called him a promoter, you’d also be right on the money because he is the organizer of the globe trotting party BEMBE, but then you would also have to add CEO of TJ Records and entrepreneur to the list. The only way to describe “TJ” is as a visionary whose exciting interests, enviable music skills and keen insight makes him a person who is constantly sought after when it comes to making creative projects a success.
Although TJ’s name was not readily familiar at the time, his work was: the 2005 hit riddim Bill Back created a true rhythmical chaos on our local airwaves as well as on overseas pirate stations and BBC ‘s 1 Xtra. “Bill Back” did not only propel TJ’s career alone, it also pushed artists like Aidonia and Mavado with their tracks “Bukham” and “Bawl dem ah Bawl”, Sizzla also saw his bill back experience with his track Head Out. However without a moments rest TJ was back in the studio producing another show stopper. Months and months after tweaking and fine tuning the industry caught wind of the riddim proudly entitled “Show Off,” the year was 2006. Unlike its predecessor “Show Off” caught on much much faster with its heavy baseline and catchy intro’s and lets not forget it housed one of the biggest lyrical counteractions in dancehall, the exciting lyrical thrashing found in the songs “Bullet proof ski”n from Bounty Killer and “Bullet proof vest” from Beenie Man, this definitely rehashed the on going lyrical feud between them both which spans over 10years. Show off also gave birth to Mavado’s first single “Last Night” for his album Gangster for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks. TJ has also been responsible for the chart topping single that every girl loves to love and from the artists that every girl just loves and the single is Wine Gyal from Beenie Man .
Keeping a Cool Head Leads to Continued Success TJ’s sense of the music business provides a strong foundation for his success. He concentrates his keen eye on the voids in the music and continues to fill them. He tries not to be like everyone else when asked he says “I follow my own path and instinct”. TJ does not confine himself to the talents of just the popular acts but branches out everyday looking for fresh talent. Clearly his strong sense of business has taken him on a long journey in a short period of time. But at the same time, he is seeking to expand his entrepreneurial spirit into areas beyond the recording studio

Inna Yoh Car Riddim Mix 5th Gear

At 17, the lanky Myrie is Buju's eldest son. He has been making waves with productions on his Markus Records label, which is based at his father's Gargamel studio off Red Hills Road in St Andrew.

Markus Records is bringing its own style, its own sound and just quality music to the game. I'm just doing me and encouraging others to give a listening ear to my productions," Myrie told Splash this week.
The label made its production debut with the Beating Stick rhythm last October. However, it is its latest effort, the 5th Gear beat that has been making noise, not only in Jamaica but in ethnic markets overseas.
"The 5th Gear has proven itself to be an even better project and is getting very good rotation worldwide," Myrie said.
Aside from rhythm projects, he has worked on a number of songs including I Octane's Mama Food Put On, Whine Me and Why Life Nuh Sweet by Blak Ryno, and Tongue Ring by Ninja Kid.
He has also produced a handful of songs for his father who is serving a 10-year prison sentence in the United States for drug trafficking.
He spoke of his favourite Buju Banton song.
"It's Close One Yesterday, simply because it is a very calm, soothing, uplifting song and it helps me to 'keep strong and hold a firm meditation'."
Markus Myrie got involved in music production after completing the requisite educational training. He attended Wolmer's Prep School and later Meadowbrook High. After gaining passes in CXC, he went to the Creative Production and Training Centre where he pursued an engineering course.
Even with his father's reputation in the music industry, it has not been an easy road for Myrie.
"It wasn't the same situation with every artiste; some were easy to get, some took more time and some are still taking time," he said. "It isn't as hard, but not as easy as one would like to believe."
Buju Banton, who started out in the business at around the same age, did not always embrace his son's musical ambitions.
"He didn't want me to pursue music as a career unless it was the business part of it," Myrie revealed.
Markus Records has quite a lot on its plate for the next few months.
According to its founder, a number of projects will be released, but mostly singles. One of those, Lose Your Love, by his father, will be released on Valentine's Day.
For Markus Myrie, the song is a personal statement.
"Lose Your Love was recorded when I went to visit him while he was out on bail. It's a very beautiful song and I know everyone will love it," he said.

Tiana Taking Her Place in the Dancehall

Young, female Dancehall-Reggae artist, Danielle Shand, better known as Tiana has emerged on the Jamaican music scene; is stating her case as the industry’s newest diva.
The St. Mary based singer first burst onto the scene in 2009 with her single “I Won’t” which was produced by her manager, Carlington Wilmot from popular Jamaican media house, OutARoad.com. The single addressed issues of domestic violence & was recorded following the notorious incident involving R&B/pop superstars, Chris Brown & Rihanna.
Tiana first gained recognition through her collaboration with Dancehall artist & dancer, Chi Ching Ching for the hit single “Skippin’ Feelin,” in 2009. The dance song, inspired by the Black Eyed Peas hit song “I Got a Feeling,” helped launch the singjay to stardom; showcasing her vocal abilities with her curvaceous & enticing figure.
With the amazing spotlight Tiana got from Skippin Feelin got it earns her a spot to perform on the biggest one night Reggae/Dancehall show on earth Sting.
However, her most thought-provoking single was a 2010 song entitled “No Man Can Talk Bad Bout Mi.” The song, considered a rebuttal to Konshens’ track “Talk Bout Me” was co-produced by Konshens’ label, SubKonshus Records & D&H Records. The song received noteworthy buzz & earned a myriad of #1s regionally and the video for the single debuted at #1 on the popular CVM Hit List Video Countdown Chart. Furthermore, Tiana also released the hit song “Dat Mi Want” on the Flirtation Riddim (Media House Productions) which featured Konshens as well Portmore Empire leader, Vybz Kartel.
In that same year (2010) Tiana got the chance to entertain over 3,000 Spring Breakers…An event that is known to host several international Reggae/Dancehall acts such as Shaggy, Beenie Man Tanto Metro & Devonte, and the energetic Elephant Man along with a host of other artistes. In that same year Tiana also appeared on the annual Gt Taylors Christmas Extravaganza Concert.
Turn the calendar to 2011 & Tiana built on her growing recognition; collaborating with Konshens for the popular single, “Gyal Mi Love Yuh” on the Buss Out Riddim (Fams House Production). The video for “Gyal Mi Love Yuh” shows off Tiana’s sultry looks & lyrical ingenuity and received constant airplay on local TV stations. From there, Tiana never looked back as she garnered mass attention from the underground Dancehall with the release of her sexually charged single, Pum Pum Phat as well as the mainstream audience with Bruk Out and Wine on the internationally-acclaimed Overproof Riddim. Other notable hits such as Haffi Mek It (Love My Life), The Highest Grade Song and Better Love Tell sparked Female Deejay of the Year talk amongst her peers as her 11 videos unveiled during 2011 showed her dedication and persistence throughout Dancehall.
Additionally, Tiana became a spokesperson for her female compatriots; calling out what she felt was a “sexist” music industry as she strived to see females earn similar recognition to their male counterparts. Her profound statement garnered mass media attention and support from her female colleagues within the industry.
Tiana’s star continues to rise in 2012 amongst a flurry of young, multitalented female artistes that are creating a bright future for females in the industry. With local & international popularity gaining steam, Tiana is earning her ranking as the “Princess of Dancehall.”
Hailing from the same parish (St. Mary) as the Queen of Dancehall Lady Saw it is safe to say that Tiana is indeed the Princess of Dancehall.
With Tiana being one of the fastest rising female artistes…she believes the key to being successful in the male dominated arena is to work twice as hard, stay focus, believe in what you are doing and most importantly having a good manager is the #1 ingredient.

Popcaan heads to Zimbabwe

Dancehall artiste, Popcaan, has a very busy season ahead as he prepares to debut recently shot music videos, fulfills engagements both overseas and at home, while putting in some quality time in studio on his first album project.
The artiste, who has made the Caribbean his home this year, will quite appropriately spend Christmas in Guyana where he is scheduled to perform on December 25. With many of his songs doing exceptionally well on that mainland territory, Popcaan is definitely the 'Ravin' King’ in Guyana, a country which holds a special place in his heart.
"The people are so friendly ….it feels just like home. The fans there have a special place in their heart for me," he said as he pulled out his brightest smile.
Of course, fans at home will not be left out and Papi, as he is affectionately called, is set to make a supreme performance on what is dubbed the greatest one-night reggae/dancehall show on earth - Sting. The annual December 26 treat is shaping up to be quite an occasion this year and Popcaan is good and ready. He has an arsenal of hit songs, old and current, which cater to both the girls who love to gyrate and his 'rude bwoy' fans who see Popcaan as their role model and mentor.

"We have the songs and we have the package and I am looking forward to performing on Sting 2012," Popcaan declared.

Right after Sting, Papi will pack his bags and head out to Zimbabwe, where reggae legend Bob Marley and the Wailers performed in April 1980 at the official Independence Ceremony, at the invitation of the newly elected president Robert Mugabe. Many reggae acts have since performed inZimbabwe and Popcaan has every intention of being a great musical ambassador as rings in the New Year with his first performance on African soil.
